Tweed Ride! Coming to Newport!

Inspired by the Tweed Run in London and similar rides in San Francisco, Chicago and Boston, Newport is throwing its own woolen cap into the ring by hosting an inaugural Tweed Ride on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. The ride departs at 2:00 p.m. from here at the Reser Bicycle Outfitters / Fusion Studio Building.

A leisurely six-mile course will take riders through the fair streets of Newport, Covington and Cincinnati in the most dapper attire followed by friendly banter, nibbles and libations at Claddagh Irish Pub at Newport on the Levee.

Riders are asked to leave their Lycra at home and dress in British period pieces. Organizers will make awards for the best costumes, and a suggested $5 donation helps fund bike racks in city parks. Possible attired includes woolen plus fours, tweed jackets, ties, flat caps, merino team jerseys, knitted jumpers, etc.

Need help putting your outfit together visit Newport’s Costume Gallery at 638 Monmouth St. (859) 655-9419

For more information about the Tweed Ride, visit www.bikenewport.org.

Come ride your bike, support the Newport Police Department's Bike Patrol, and have some fun! The 2nd Sunday Ride (Sunday, October 11) is a group benefit ride similar in format to the annual Ride Cincinnati cancer research benefit, with a route that follows the Ohio River east on Route 8 toward Augusta, Kentucky. Food stops will be set up at several points along the way to provide nourishment to keep you pedaling, and mechanical support will be provided along the way at Pendery Park by Marty from Reser Bicycle Outfitters, just in case. The Newport Police Department will be there as well, keeping the route safe and providing additional support along the way.

Distances vary from 8 to 63 miles, so all skill levels are welcome, and registration can be done on the day of the event starting at 6:30. The ride starts and ends at Newport City Hall (10th and Monmouth.) Celebrate after the ride at the 2nd Sunday Newport street party from 2-5pm, with a bike rodeo and pony rides for the kids, raffle prizes, and more for the entire family!

Award for Devou Park Volunteers

I have just been informed that CORA will be receiving a Resolution of Appreciation from the City of Covington on May 26th at 7pm during the monthly commissioners meeting. We will be receiving this high honor for our past, current, and future work on the Devou Back Country Trail System. KyMBA, UGive, Give Back Cincinnati, and Duke Energy will also be receiving this high honor for their respective rolls during this grand project. All the above organizations have collectively worked 2346.5 total hours to date.

A Resolution of Appreciation is an official acknowledgment that goes into the city records for all of eternity. An example of a Resolution of Appreciation is; an individual may retire from working for the city for lets say 25 years. When that individual retires after 25 years, the city acknowledges their appreciation for that individual and their service through this resolution. We have been working in the dirt for only seven months, therefore, this is a big deal!!

You may think "this just can't be so, I have to see this to believe this." The meeting is open to the public for anyone who may want to witness the official reading.

There will be celebratory beverages at a local establishment immediately following the reading.

Hope to see you there!!

Grand Opening

You are invited to join us in celebration of our new location. The party will be held this Saturday from 4pm until 9pm. There will be something for everyone as we close off the street for some cycling games, a smokin hot Phil's Grill, a bicycle operated smoothy maker and some rockin soul tunes from DJ Chris Burgen.
While you are here be sure to check out the season's newest bicycles and gear from Orbea, BMC, Rocky Mountain, Yeti, Civia, Louis Garneau, Fox and Troy Lee.
The weather looks perfect and there will be plenty of bicycle parking, so ride your bike!
Thank you for helping us make the dream of a bigger and better shop a reality, hope to see you there!

Devou Park Back-Country Trail

Construction has begun on the new back-country trails just outside downtown Cincinnati at Devou Park in Covington. The whole project has been accomplished with very little tax dollars and a lot of volunteer work from KyMBA, CORA, Give Back High and Give Back Cincinnati, as well as residents at large!

The first of several trail heads is at the old Ludlow City incinerator at the bottom of Sleepy Hollow Road. Volunteer days are weekly and can be found on our calendar.

Getting Settled...

Settling in to the new location is much more work than we thought. We have been waiting and dreaming about our new shop for well over a year and now that it's here we still don't know where to put everything!

So for those of you who haven't been bored to tears with endless construction stories, you might like to know that we've moved one block north to our new location at 648 Monmouth. It's on the corner of Seventh and Monmouth Streets. The new shop is spacious, bright and warm and even has a service entrance for taking your bike inside when it's wet. (Or your dog!) Of course you are always welcome through the front door where you will find an enormous rack of shiny new bicycles and even more clothes and accessories than ever before.

Come in and check out the progress as we get everything put in it's place including the new 2009 products. There's the new Michelin ProRace3 tires with an amazing new color palette, as well as some awesome new super lightweight MTB tires from Schwalbe. Try out a new 2009 BMC Trailfox or Fourstroke featuring the new Deore XT or hit the asphalt on a BMC SLC01 or SLX01 with Campagnolo 11 speed. And while you're here, visit Fusion Studio upstairs offering all the classes and training you need to reach your new years goals.

Our new shop already feels like home and the best part about our new space is the potential. This year Reser Bicycle Outfitters promises to be stocked with the most exciting cycling equipment to get you to your destination with comfort and speed on the road or on the trail. Most importantly, along with all of the hot new cycling gear, our great new space will give us the opportunity to better serve you. Our customers can look forward to shorter turn around times on our already speedy repairs along with scheduled appointments so that you don't have to be without your bike for more than a day, more weekly rides, more classes including basic road riding and commuting skills, a more comprehensive bicycle fitting program and a full fledged e-newsletter that keeps you up to date on what's happening at Reser Bicycle Outfitters and in the cycling community. And don't forget about the springtime grand opening party!

We are proud of our new bicycle shop, or at least we will be when everything finds a home! But the reality is that none of this would have been possible without you. Thank you. Thank you to everyone who ever stopped in, bought a bike, joined us on a ride, shared a favorite route, compared battle scars, helped us through our construction, picked up a paint brush and helped us move. Thank you. We look forward to seeing you in our new home.
